Free and Low-Cost Rides for Seniors — Start Here
What it is
Los Angeles and its neighboring cities run real ride programs for older adults — to the doctor, the market, the senior center, or almost anywhere. Most cost $1–$4 a ride. Some are free. Which one fits depends on where you live and how you get around.
The quick map
- Live in the City of LA, 65 or older? → Cityride
- Live in Glendale, Burbank, or Pasadena, 60/65+? → Your city's own Dial-A-Ride
- Can't use regular buses because of a disability (any city in LA County)? → Access Services
- Have Medi-Cal and need to get to a medical appointment? → Medi-Cal pays for the ride
- Just want cheaper buses/trains? Metro Reduced Fare for 62+ (75¢ base, never more than $2.50/day) — apply at metro.net/riding/fares/seniors/ or a Metro Customer Center. Low income? Metro LIFE adds 20 free rides every month — metro.net/fares/life/, (866) 827-8646.
- Have a Medicare Advantage plan? Some plans include rides to doctor visits — every plan is different. Call the number on the plan card and ask, or let HICAP check free: (800) 434-0222.
