MSSP — a Care Manager Who Keeps You at Home

What it is

The Multipurpose Senior Services Program (MSSP) assigns frail seniors on Medi-Cal a professional care-management team that arranges and even purchases what's needed to stay home: adult day care, respite for family, minor home repairs, extra chore help, transportation, meal services.

Who can get it

Age 60+, on Medi-Cal, and certified (or certifiable) for nursing-home-level care. Most participants also have IHSS — MSSP coordinates on top of it.

What it costs

Free to the participant (it's a Medi-Cal program; by law the cost must stay below nursing-home cost).

How to start

  1. Find the MSSP site for your area at the state's "Find Services in My County" page (select Los Angeles).

  2. Or call LA County Aging & Disabilities Info & Assistance (800) 510-2020 and ask for "MSSP intake near me."

  3. The site does a full in-home assessment and builds the care plan with you, your doctor, and family.
